IMPROV IS JAZZ!
We are familiar with the feeling of being on stage and getting stuck. We immerse ourselves in our thoughts, losing touch with the present and the other people on stage. We lose confidence in our instincts. In this workshop, we will address this theme by exploring the concept of outward focus. We will allow our characters to react to the discoveries that unfold on stage. To do this, we must learn to truly see what we are looking at and listen attentively to what we hear. We will use the sensory perceptions of our characters to play emotional and physical reactions that can be genuine. We will delve into the difference between reacting and responding, discovering the comedic potential of every moment on stage. Our focus will be on the present moment and on our fellow performers. We will confront our personal obstacles to find the freedom to react, step out of our comfort zone, and make discoveries in every scene.

IMAGE IN ACTION

How many dialogues from the improv theater scenes you've created or witnessed do you remember? Probably few, even when referring to particularly inspired scenes. On the other hand, the images of some scenes seem capable of remaining etched in our memory for years, sometimes decades. In this workshop, we will explore techniques that enable scenes to unfold without dialogue or with very limited dialogue. We will use various elements such as mime, dance, gestures, sound effects, and music to build non-verbal solutions to the puzzle of creating improvisational theater scenes.

VULNERABILITY
Vulnerability is a fundamental quality for anyone stepping onto a stage. In this workshop, we will grapple with profound questions and attempt to chip away at our armor. Do we have the courage to reveal ourselves when we genuinely cannot predict the outcome of what will happen a moment later? Can we let go of the tools and tricks we've accumulated to stay safe? Together, we will unlock fears and shame, exploring our stage presence. The reward awaits in the love of the audience, ready at that point to be led on a journey where we savor every moment, no matter the ultimate destination.

EXTREME CHARACTERS
In our work on stage, our characters often appear as normal and neutral individuals. Would you be interested in exploring the possibility of playing larger-than-life characters, more distant from yourself, while still maintaining the work in a credible manner? In many situations, when such characters appear in a scene, primarily two things happen: the character struggles to develop in a coherent and credible way, and the entire scene focuses and revolves around the extreme characteristics of that character. In this workshop, we will explore how to develop our skills to keep these characters consistent and credible, allowing us to tell fascinating, unique, and engaging stories in various contexts and situations.

INTENSION AND VISION

Improvisational theater is created at the moment. With joy, people on stage exclaim, 'We don't know what we're going to do!' This statement is both true and false. We still don't know which characters we will portray, what lines we will deliver, and how the story will unfold. However, we do know our artistic and technical qualities and our vision for the show. Or at least, we should. In this workshop, we will delve into the concepts of intention and vision, asking fundamental questions. Why do we perform? What does it mean to explore and create? How will we present our work so the audience can experience our intentions? The power of theater is immense, with its ability to create powerful and engaging experiences. The power of improvisational theater is immeasurable. Together, let's explore its possibilities to create scenes that can, among other things, evoke emotions, inspire the audience, generate critical debate, promote change, and express our intentions.

PROTAGONIST
The quantity of different characters that we bring to our improv theater scenes is often limited. In this workshop, we will work to ignite the spark capable of bringing forth the multitude of possible characters within each of us. From realistic to eccentric, from absurd to grotesque, we will explore and build our paths to range from one register to another. With some simple tools, games, and exercises, in this work, you will learn to forget that you are playing a character, to be that character.

JUST PLAY!
The improvisational theater should unleash our spontaneity to enhance our creativity. Yet, our stage presence sometimes turns into a checklist of things to do that fill our minds. In this workshop, we will try to understand how to truly let go. We will use the basic techniques of real-time creation - receive, react, and repeat - to recognize, accept, and play with what truly is in that moment, without getting lost in what could be instead. The journey embodies and represents the approach to improvisational theater of the company Les Productions de L'Instable, of which Frédéric Barbusci is the founder and member.

THE ART OF ALLOWING
Life happens outside of your comfort zone. The Art of allowing is a workshop designed for anyone desires to cultivate the ability to flawlessly and spontaneously create magic on stage. Discover and learn to get out of your own way or what we call eliminating self.  "It" comes from a place of joy and connection to one’s source intuition, and is attained by giving yourself to the art form through listening rather than thinking, from allowing rather than forcing, from being fully present in the moment and focusing on connection with your partner and your environment. You will understand why making your partner look good makes you in turn look twice as good and makes the workflow. Ultimately, you will understand that this is how ensembles are created.  You will learn to strip away the layers of all the walls & barriers you have put up to protect yourself rather than simply being your most authentic self.

THE TIME IS NOW!
We live in a world that is constantly evolving and changing rapidly. This leads us to the uncertainty of understanding what is possible on stage and what might be deemed inappropriate today. Meaningful and thought-provoking questions arise before us. How can we address political, racial, or gender issues in improvisational theater? How can we effectively portray characters with perspectives different from our own? How can we keep improvisational theater playful and enjoyable while bringing sensitive themes to the stage? In this workshop, you will take on the challenge of creating scenes that can be relevant, meaningful, and thought-provoking.

BODY AND DRAMA
In this workshop, led by Maestro Ricardo Berhens, we will explore the various levels of energy within the body and the states of dramatic tension as tools for scene development. In addition to these techniques, specific attention will be given to selective definition, parallel scenes, transitions, points of connection, and choral moments. The work is deeply inspired and grounded in two original productions by Maestro Berhens: "El circulo" (2008) and "Shaekspeare inedito" (2013).
